Demian Conrad is a Swiss designer, artist, author and independent publisher working at the intersection of graphic design, publishing and experimental practices. His work is grounded in simplicity, research and a sustained interest in the grey zones between art and applied design, using books and printed works as spaces for cultural inquiry.

He is the founder and Creative Director of Automatico Studio, a design consultancy established in 2007, specialising in visual identities, wayfinding systems and exhibition design. The studio collaborates with architects, cultural institutions and product designers at the crossroads of architecture, contemporary art and visual culture.

At the core of Conrad’s practice lies a belief in design as a critical and editorial tool — one that reduces, reframes and questions established frameworks. His projects often move across disciplines, combining conceptual clarity with material experimentation.

His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Grand Palais Paris, Museum Tinguely, Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, Kunsthalle Biel, Porto Design Biennial and Weltformat Festival. He is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and Architekturforum Biel/Bienne.

Alongside his studio work, Conrad has initiated several independent projects, including the furniture brand DADADUM and the experimental laboratory Center for Future Publishing in Geneva. He is the author of Graphic Design in the Post-Digital Age (Onomatopee) and Who the Hell Is Müller-Brockmann? (Niggli), and has recently been supported by the Berner Design Stiftung and the City of Biel/Bienne for the development of WROP, a book exploring experimental printing processes that is going to be released on 2027 by Slanted.

He lives and works in Switzerland.
