Demian Conrad is a Swiss graphic designer, creative director and author, founder of Automatico Studio, a design consultancy specialising in visual identities, editorial systems, wayfinding and exhibition design for architecture, culture and institutions. Demian Conrad Portrait

Alongside his commissioned work, Conrad develops research-based and editorial projects exploring the grey zones between art and applied design through books, publishing and experimental printing practices. His work is grounded in simplicity, reduction and a sustained interest in printed matter as a space for cultural inquiry and visual experimentation.

Conrad approaches design as a critical and editorial practice, one that reduces complexity, reframes narratives and questions established visual conventions. His projects often move across disciplines, combining conceptual clarity with material experimentation and systemic thinking.

His work has been exhibited internationally at institutions including the Grand Palais Paris, Museum Tinguely, Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, Kunsthalle Biel, Porto Design Biennial and Weltformat Festival. He is a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) and Architekturforum Biel/Bienne.

He is the author of Graphic Design in the Post-Digital Age (Onomatopee) and Who the Hell Is Müller-Brockmann? (Niggli), and has recently been supported by the Berner Design Stiftung and the City of Biel/Bienne for the development of WROP, a book exploring experimental printing processes that is going to be released on 2027 by Slanted.
