WROP Book
Making industrial printing unique

Generative offset reproduction: 500 unique books, each featuring random patterns created directly on the press.

WROP (Water Random Offset Printing) is an experimental project that explores the formal possibilities of offset printing by introducing chance into the production process—granting each copy a unique, unexpected character. It represents a dialogue between industrial reproduction and singular creation, where shifting patterns are generated through a custom robot (set of water jet controlled by Arduino), actively modifying the plates during the print run.

This upcoming book challenges the role of printed matter in an era dominated by screens. With contributions from experts in graphic design and visual history, WROP reflects on the tension between precision and indeterminacy, and envisions new potential for the printed book as a medium seeking distinction in a digital world.

Demian Conrad is currently developing the project, building the custom printing device, and collaborating with invited contributors. The book is in active production and set for release in 2026.
